Mongolia Field School-2022 FAQ

1. Application process

Program admission will be handled on a rolling basis, with applicants generally hearing about their application status within 30 days of submitting their application. Notification fellowship awards will occur after the Priority Deadline.

The first question of the form is "Are you a 2020 Field School Nominee?" Please click on "Yes" and enter your name and email (as recorded with us previously), and the course(s) you're interested in taking for this year. This will complete your form as we already have your application materials on file.

The ACMS is unable to directly offer program participants academic credit for their participation in the program. Students who wish to receive academic credit for their participation in the program can work with their home or other academic institutions to ensure that the courses taken through the program meet the academic requirements of the institution granting academic credit. The ACMS can provide course syllabi, information on assessment and other materials to assist students who are seeking academic credit.

2. Funding/Fellowship

Tuition will cover all in-country instructional costs, plus housing, transportation and meals during the program term. You will be responsible for your travel to and from Mongolia and your stay before and after the field school. 

No. You are encouraged to apply for funding support from other sources to support their participation in the Field School.

Program participants who have paid the tuition fee but are unable to attend the program and notify the ACMS at least 15 days prior to the starting date of the programs are eligible to receive a full tuition refund, minus a program administrative fee. Program participants who withdraw from the program within the 15 days prior to the starting date of the program are responsible to pay the administrative fee and are eligible for a refund of 75% of the tuition fee. Program participants who withdraw or are required to leave the program after the start date of the program are not eligible for a tuition refund.

3. Health

Please note that following requirements are subject to change due to Government regulations. 

The Mongolian government allows foreign nationals to travel to Mongolia on incoming flights if they meet certain criteria (a valid long-stay visa, permanent residency or short term business visas). All incoming passengers are required to provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival and take another PCR test on arrival at Chinggis Khan International Airport (unless aged 5 or under). Those who have not received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccination at least 14 days previously or who are unable to provide proof of having recovered from COVID-19 within the previous 4 months are required to self-isolate for 14 days on arrival. Those who have evidence of receiving two doses of a COVID-19 vaccination at least 14 days previously or of having recovered from COVID-19 within the previous 4 months are exempt from isolation requirements.

All participants will be responsible for ensuring proper medical and evacuation insurance coverage for the duration of their stay in Mongolia. Proof of insurance coverage will be required for all participants in the program. Program participants assume all responsibility, financially and otherwise, for costs associated with any illness or injury that may occur during the course of the field school, including the costs of medical care and evacuation.

4. Logistics

Due to the COVID-19 induced travel restrictions, the flight itineraries remain few. But it is the hopes of the ACMS team that the safety levels will drop. Possible U.S. to Mongolia flight suggestions include via Istanbul, Seoul, Beijing, and Moscow.
