Johanni Curtet, PhD


I am a musician, ethnomusicologist and producer. From 2003 to 2013, my research focused on the origin, history, spectacularization, heritagization and transmission of khöömii in Mongolia. My dissertation entitled “The transmission of höömij, an art of vocal timber: the ethnomusicology and history of Mongolian overtone singing” and several papers are available online (
As an Artistic Director of Routes Nomades Association, I organize and produce concerts, tours and CDs of mongolian music and khöömii since 2006 ( I released an overview of my research through the CD “An Anthology of Mongolian Khöömii” in 2017.
