  • Beginner (Level 1),
  • Lower-Intermediate (Level 2),
  • Upper-Intermediate (Level 3), and

Coursework

The purpose of this online language program is to provide students of the Mongolian language with an opportunity to enhance their communicative competence through the systematic improvement of reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, in a virtual environment. Classes will be taught on Zoom and focus on interacting with the virtual instructor to improve speaking and comprehension of the new concepts. Class sessions will be supplemented by additional assignments and activities on the ACMS e-learning platform. The assignments will stimulate higher-level reading and listening comprehension skills and help students strengthen and consolidate their structure and writing ability.

The activities will be interactive and scenario-based to offer a virtual immersion into the Mongolian culture, including “virtual visits'' to Mongolian homes, guided consumption of social and cultural events, tours of organizations and institutions, and conducting research interviews. The program entails 8 weeks of intensive study of the Mongolian language, over a 9-week period, at the level of language learning which is equivalent to approximately 3 semester credit hours (120 hours of instructional time, plus additional exercises) and is designed to meet FLAS eligibility. While ACMS does not provide academic credits, the ACMS will work with students who want to receive academic credit for the course from their university by providing necessary course syllabus and information to meet academic credit requirements. The course will be taught by an experienced Mongolian language teacher. Students will meet with the instructor for 1.5 hours every weekday, with each session followed by independent assignments. All instructor-led sessions will take place on Zoom, and span for 1.5 hours every weekday.  The scheduling of the sessions will be based on the time zones of the students of the cohort.
