Christopher Morgan

My research focuses on the hunter-gatherer archaeology of Mongolia, China, the American West, and southern Andes, with an emphasis on how humans adapt to high-altitude, desert, and other marginal environments and paleoenvironmental change. In Mongolia, I collaborate with the National Museum of Mongolia and the University of Pittsburgh on projects in Uvs Province that track both the Holocene origins of Mongolia’s pastoral economies and the Pleistocene evolution of northeast Asia’s microblade adaptation. Related research in northwest China focuses on fundamental evolutionary questions: Lower to Upper Paleolithic transitions, the arrival or evolution modern humans and human behavior, and forager to farmer transitions.
