  • Executive: The President of Mongolia is the head of the government. They must be "an indigenous citizen, who has attained the age of forty-five years and has permanently resided as a minimum for the last five years in Mongolia, shall be eligible for election to the post of President for a term of four years."[1] The president may only serve two four-year terms and must be a candidate nominated by a party represented in the State Great Hural. The presidency, however, is decided through a popular election and before assuming office the president must withdraw their political party membership. Among the duties and rights of the president are veto power over proposed legislation, nominating candidates for Prime Minister, issuing decrees with the approval of the Prime Minister, representing the state in foreign relations, power to declare a state of emergency or war (to approved within seven days by the legislature or declaration is withdrawn), and the power to grant citizenship, asylum, or pardons.[2] The current president is Nambaryn Enkhbayar.
