Mongolian industry includes construction materials, mining, oil, food and beverages, and natural fiber manufacturing. In 2006, 11.7% of Mongolia’s labor force worked in the industry sector, or about 121,000 out of 1.042 million. In spite of employing far less of Mongolia’s population than the agriculture (39.9%) or service sectors (49.9%), industry accounted for 40.4% of Mongolia’s GDP. Agriculture and services accounted for 18.8% and 40.8%, respectively.[1]

Though much of the industry sector has been privatized, the government still owns several industrial franchises. Over 2000-2007, public sector salaries were raised by 50%, and the minimum wage by 30% [2].
