Erdenet Mining Company

Though considered an international joint venture between Russia and Mongolia, Erdenet Mining Company is a state-owned enterprise. The Company has been in operation since Soviet control, and has developed infrastructure and a city (Erdenet City) near its copper mine in Orkhon aimag, 400 kilometers northwest of Ulaanbaatar. The copper mine, tagged at 22.95 billion kilograms copper capacity in 2005, has an annual production rate of 114.3 thousand kilograms. [1] It is the fourth largest copper mine in the world. [2] The Company is also involved in nickel mining, and is an active prospector and explorer in Mongolia.
