Plan to Relocate Ger Districts to Reduce City Pollution

The ger districts of Ulaanbaatar needed to be moved to a better location in order to reduce air pollution, said the Green coalition of Mongolia.

“The most efficient way to diminish the air pollution is the ecologically correct location of the ger districts. In other words, the ger districts need to be moved to a place which has the right wind direction. There is the full possibility to do this,” the Green coalition said.

In research conducted by scientists from the coalition, which grew out of the Green movement of Mongolia, it was found that 9100 hectares of houses needed to be moved. The average cost of one house evacuation was US $1000.

No More Chemicals for Bayanzurkh Citizens

A working group appointed by the Emergency Authority has transmitted some substances which are harmful to humans, such as sulfur and natrium acid, from Mavsen Co. Ltd located in the 10th khoroo of Bayanzurkh district to a chemical storage facility called ‘Reactive’ in Songino Khairkhan district amid government investigations.

Residents Upset Over Garbage in Cemetery

Dalan Davkhar cemetery, located less than ten kilometers from the center of Ulaanbaatar, is facing problems with urban growth in changing from a place of remembrance to a landfill site. Local residents said they fear the increase of waste buildup within the graveyard.

"Mongolia Supports Import of Ozone-Friendly Products" Says Erdenebaatar

Mongolia needs to tighten the control over the import of household refrigeration and other electric appliances that have ozone depleting substances known as Freon under the supervision of the General Customs Office, according to a speech by the Minister of Nature and Environment I. Erdenebaatar today, on International Ozone Day. He said the government will support the importation of ozone friendly products.
